The Mercury MerCruiser 99370A2 Water Shutter Assembly is a genuine OEM exhaust protection component designed for older MerCruiser V6 and V8 sterndrive engines equipped with 3-inch exhaust elbows. Installed in the exhaust Y-pipe, the shutter acts as a one-way valve, allowing exhaust gases to exit while helping prevent water from flowing back into the exhaust manifold, riser and engine.
This shutter assembly is commonly used on centre-riser exhaust systems found on MerCruiser V6 and V8 engines manufactured between 1982 and 1987. It is a critical component for preventing water ingestion, which can lead to internal engine corrosion, hydro-lock and costly engine damage.
